Community Scale Energy Solutions

The Northwest has abundant sources of clean, renewable energy and many opportunities for conservation and efficiency. Strong communities, taking collective action, can utilize these resources to respond effectively to global climate change, the depletion of fossil fuel reserves, and energy supply volatility.

Through our ongoing work, we know that communities in the Northwest are seeking guidance on what they can do today to conserve energy and use energy more wisely. Our efforts successfully educate, equip, and empower communities to develop their own solutions that provide real community benefits. As a non-profit organization, we work directly with communities to put concepts and theories into practice and to identify the solutions that are most feasible in the evolving political, economical and technological environment.

Community Solar

Northwest SEED is a leader in the field of Community Solar, working to increase access and reduce upfront costs. Read about our Community Solar efforts and services here.

The cost of solar is coming down fast! Our neighbors to the south are putting up solar panels everywhere thanks to the Solarize Portland initiative. Through Portland’s model, interested neighbors are coming together to enjoy significant savings through the bulk purchase of solar panels. In the last year, Solarize Portland has quadrupled the amount of residential solar in Portland, created professional-wage green jobs, and brought down solar prices throughout Oregon. Given these results, it’s easy to see why we’re so excited to Solarize Seattle! After careful study of the Solarize Portland project, Northwest SEED is working with Seattle neighborhoods to organize a Solarize Seattle effort. If you've been thinking about installing a solar system on your home but aren't sure where to start, this program may be for you! We are currently working with the Queen Anne neighborhood to launch a Solarize Seattle pilot.

Northwest SEED empowers community scale clean energy through expert guidance that combines technical support, community education and practical implementation to help communities achieve their sustainability and economic development goals.
